Conflicting Advice: What should you avoid when trying to conceive?
Eating whole grain gluten is good for your fertility. Don’t eat gluten at all - it’s bad for your fertility! Your IVF specialist says one thing, your acupuncturist says another who do you listen to? Well if you’ve been following me for a while, you know that there is no one right answer for anyone and that’s why there is so much conflicting advice.
So the question really is what do you do who do you listen to the simple but yet complicated answer is yourself. Following your intuition is one of the best things you can do when trying to conceive. There are so many times I knew what was best, but I didn’t believe in myself and actually the worst-case scenario and fold it in front of my eyes slowly and I had a really pick myself up and do what I knew was best.
There are so many times I knew what was best for myself, but I didn’t believe in myself, and actually, the worst-case scenario unfolded right in front of my eyes. Maybe that’s why I had a trying to conceive journey of nine years!?! If I would’ve listened to myself a little bit more, I would’ve got to the finish line a little bit quicker.
Believe in yourself and believe in your body - take all advice with a grain of salt & don’t be afraid to speak up to anyone - you know your body best when you're trying to conceive! Ask yourself this question before doing anything “Does this fall in line with what I want & believe in?”

Our immune systems are supposed to keep us safe right? But what happens when our immune systems are so overactive that it keeps us from getting pregnant? In this episode, I share my own story of my overactive immune system, how I discovered that’s what my issue was and what I had to do because of it. I also dive into our lifestyle habits, eating habits, and mental habits and how they directly relate to getting pregnant.

It can be hard to see the big picture when we are trying to eat better and maintain a healthy mental state because the payoff is not immediate and can take years. But it is important to remember that the positive changes we are making are benefitting us in a multitude of ways and not just in helping us to conceive. Finally, I talk about steroid use in our bodies and why we have to be extremely cautious with these.

This is the book that changed my life: Is Your Body Baby Friendly? How are you miss carriage in idea failure can be explained and treated with immunotherapy by Alan E. Beer, M.D.
When I was told that my infertility was just “one of those things” that did not sit well with me and started me on my own journey of researching and beginning to study why I couldn’t get pregnant and work through my own health as well as mental health.
Oftentimes doctors will not take you seriously until you have several miscarriages. This can be extremely frustrating. A doctor wouldn’t allow you to have multiple heart attacks before looking into what is going on, and we shouldn’t accept anything different for our infertility.
"We need to stop believing that our bodies and lady bits are not connected”
We have to ask questions, do our research, and be willing to find someone willing to work with us. I had nurses and doctors tell me that what I wanted to do was impossible.
Clearly, it wasn’t since I ended up getting pregnant, but it just goes to show that we cannot just take what a doctor tells us as fact and we have to be responsible for our own bodies and our own health in order to bring our dreams to reality.

You better believe I tried any and every superstition & myth related to IVF & infertility during my journey. Why not - they weren't going to do my body any harm - RIGHT?
And back in my early years of infertility, I was willing to do ANYTHING to get a BFP.
But hindsight is a bitch and knowing what I know now, none of these infertility superstitions/myths would have work for me - Sarah either. 5 Infertility, IVF & Fertility Treatments Superstitions & Myths Debunked
One - they were way too narrow minded. Only focusing on "implantation" - I know now there's a LOT more to get & maintaining a healthy pregnancy.
Two - They may not have individually "hurting" my chances. But with all the other shit going on in my body, they were adding to the inflammation and chaos going on, which was making me infertile.
Does that mean you shouldn't do them? Well, here's the thing - many of these IVF & infertility superstitions - myths can be doing you more harm than helping. We break down from a whole-body & functional medicine perspective and hopefully help you to rethink these IVF/infertility superstitions/myths.

We sometimes think that IVF can be a quick fix to getting pregnant, and while there are circumstances where IVF can be beneficial and can be a route for someone, often it is not an easier path, because it has its own obstacles and difficult things to get through. It can seem easier because initially, we think that we don’t have to change the way we eat and work on our mindset, but often IVF is still unsuccessful.
“IVF is not a quick fix.”
On top of that, it’s important to realize that eating better, working on our mental health, and becoming a healthier version of ourselves is very important in order for us to deal with the stress of our fertility journey and can increase our chances of IVF being successful if that is the route that needs to be taken.

Remember there are no quick fixes and we have to put in the work to better ourselves so that we give ourselves the best chance to create the family of our dreams.

Can a 'Fertility Diet' Actually Improve Your Chances of Getting Pregnant?
Hello Beautiful! Are you on a "Fertility Diet" to help increase your chances of getting pregnant naturally or to improve your chances of IVF success?
Do you feel like it's just not working for you? For the simple fact that you're not pregnant yet, or you can't maintain a healthy pregnancy. I feel ya girl - I was there for years! And here's what I learnt - there's NO perfect fertility diet that everyone dealing with infertility should be doing.
We all have different needs & we have to figure out what the perfect fertility diet is for us. I went Paleo for over a year and even though it helped me improve my overall health & embryo quality I didn't get pregnant - even with the support of IVF.
I had to dig deeper and figure out what foods worked best for me & what was causing inflammation = my unexplained infertility.

“Pregnancy is not a sign of health.”
When we are on the infertility journey stress can be overwhelming. Oftentimes what we don’t realize is that we are bringing a great deal of stress just from everyday life. Then when we add to that the stress of not being able to have a child it can be overwhelming. In this episode, I take several questions in regards to stress and talk about the connection between stress and infertility.
“We are natural forgetters because it is a survival technique.”
In addition, we talk about supplements, egg quality, oils, and the vegan diet. I love being able to answer these questions because they resonate with just about everyone who is on the fertility journey. I cover several things the help take the pressure off yourself and walk into a healthier lifestyle.
